Doug, Judy & GT! For the last 30 years we’ve owned and operated our own residential heating & air conditioning business.
About Us
During the course of operating a family-owned, residential heating and air conditioning business for nearly 30 years, we cannot count the number of service calls that result from some sort of pests fouling up the HVAC equipment or air distribution system. The repairs range from clogged drain lines from water roaches or slugs to small snakes getting wrapped around the blower wheels to complete roach or mice infestations of the air duct systems. Those repair bills range from hundreds to thousands of dollars, depending on the type of pest and how quickly the infestation has been found.
We also found out that typical homeowners' insurance policies do not cover damages from pest infestations.
We had known for years that this vulnerability had existed with all central HVAC system drain lines, but there wasn’t an approved product on the market to address the problem. So, like all other HVAC companies and homeowners, we figured we just had to “live with it."
Finally, on a cold October night, as my wife Judy and I were turning in, she noticed abnormal movement next to the floor vent on her side of the bed. As we approached, we realized it was a huge spider. When we moved toward it to kill it, it immediately ran back down into the vent from where it came. Needless to say, neither one of us wanted to sleep in the room until we got that spider. Realizing that once inside the air duct system, the spider or spiders could easily go back into the floor vents and traverse over any vent they liked to emerge back into the house, was not a thought that made either of us very comfortable. A thorough check of our air duct system and HVAC equipment the next morning proved unsuccessful in locating a crack or crevice that a large spider could use to make it into our air system. Then I looked at the drain line to the HVAC system, which was only about 6 feet long to the outside exterior wall. It was winter, so there was no condensation in the “trap” of the line. So the spider or whatever insect or pest that walked into the end of the drain line had no resistance in walking to and through the HVAC equipment, right into our air duct system. Once there, they had full reign of our home.
So this event was our “ah-ha” or “spark” moment, and the initial development of the Drain Guardian™ had begun. A couple of designs later, we outfitted all 6 of our exposed drain line openings with the Drain Guardian™. We are happy to report that we have not had any new intruders in the 2 years the Guardian has been in place.
It does not matter to us who developed it! We are just so happy to have the protection it gives and the “peace of mind” knowing that pests and insects can no longer just “walk in” anytime they wish. The product's benefits are so immeasurable as opposed to the small investment it takes to protect our home and family; we feel everyone should have them. It is simply easier, safer, and much less expensive to “prevent” pests from entering your home than to try and have them removed after the fact!
We are very happy to be able to offer this iron-clad protection to our customers who gobbled them up at an unprecedented rate. The Drain Guardian is working 24 Hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for us, to keep our kids and our pets safe. That is all the changes and it is ready to go!!!!!! YaHoo!!!!!
